Tom Kertes is a public-school teacher and an independent scholar in the philosophy and practice of education. His scholarship focuses on critical theories of education and colonialism. Tom’s research explores ideas and processes for supporting students’ expansion of power through the praxis of respect, or the expansion of human power through co-recognition of dignity and reflective-action. This research is aimed at undermining all systems of dehumanization, marginalization, and oppression. This includes ending poverty and overcoming colonialism, racism, sexism, and ableism.
